PROOFREADING
One of the final stages in the publication process, proofreading entails eliminating typos and stray grammar, punctuation, and spelling errors in a set of publisher-provided proofs.
EDITING
A more comprehensive service than proofreading, editing involves correcting a manuscript’s grammar, punctuation, and spelling, as well as improving its diction and syntax. Developmental editing incorporates suggestions on structure and flow.
FORMATTING
Formatting typically coincides with or follows editing. A manuscript’s page layout, headings, in-text citations, references, and notes are aligned perfectly with the editorial style of the target venue.
JOB DOSSIER PACKAGE
Few documents are more important to a successful academic job search than the candidate’s cover letter and vita. The job dossier package includes meticulous editing and formatting of these two documents to best emphasize the candidate’s qualifications and accomplishments.
THESIS PACKAGE
A master’s or doctoral thesis represents years of hard work. The thesis package includes meticulous editing of this document to ensure that research findings are presented clearly and legibly. The document is subsequently formatted to meet university requirements.
CONSULTING
An effective revise-and-resubmit requires the careful analysis of reviewers’ feedback and a clear plan for addressing questions and concerns. Consulting includes an in-depth discussion of this feedback, as well as guidance in developing a concrete, feasible plan for revision.

ABOUT ME
I’ve spent the better part of my life immersed in books—reading them, writing them, and over the past decade or so, editing them. My passion for books led me to pursue a Ph.D. in English at Penn State. After finishing my degree, I accepted a job at a major university press. There, I devoted my time to editing and formatting manuscripts, verifying citations, and reviewing offprints. I established Postmarked LLC with the goal of doing more of what I love most: helping scholars bring their best ideas to life.
I edit every single one of the manuscripts I receive myself, approaching them with the same care and precision that I do my own writing. Why work with me? Learn more about the diverse experience I bring to our collaboration below.
EXPERIENCE
Copyediting and Writing
I am an experienced copy editor and writer. I currently write, edit, and proofread internal and external communications for two deans in one of the largest colleges at a major research university. Some of my favorite projects include letters of acknowledgment, impact reports, and technical documents.
Scholarly Publishing
While working at a university press, I prepared book chapters and journal manuscripts for publication using a variety of editorial styles (e.g., APA, Chicago, and MLA, among others). I learned what makes a manuscript command an editor’s attention.
English as a Second Language
I spent two years teaching English in the Austrian educational system under the auspices of the Fulbright Commission. During that time, I worked with more than 200 students on sentence structure, diction, and tone. I understand the unique challenges facing second-language learners and value the relationships I’ve developed with clients all over the world.
In My Clients’ Own Words
I enjoy working with individuals across the university. My clients include tenured and tenure-track professors, graduate students, teaching faculty, and deans. I value the longstanding professional relationships I develop with my clients as their careers evolve.
I am an international student, and in my Ph.D. life I have received the help of various editors for my papers, cover letters, and other statements. I have to say my experience with Stephanie is remarkable. She has helped me to edit for various issues and to make my ideas clear to every audience. I have recommended her to some other friends, and all of them agree on the high quality of her work.
Stephanie is a real treasure. I have worked with her for all of my writing, including research papers, book chapters, my curriculum vitae, my teaching philosophy, and grant project reports. Stephanie has performed far beyond my expectations for every type of writing. Stephanie is a brilliant editor who helps me discover the “magic word” (or phrase) that revitalizes my modest draft with a clear voice.
It’s really incredible how Stephanie can take a document and craft it into a masterpiece in a relatively short time frame. I am nothing less than extremely satisfied with Stephanie’s work, and I would highly recommend her for any large-scale, advanced copyediting, including reorganization, style, and flow. I don’t know if I would have finished [the project] without her.
Stephanie truly was the best thing to happen to my dissertation. She helped me speak more concisely and to be sure that my arguments were well put together. I tend to write like I talk, so her help and guidance were deeply appreciated. And she was so quick to turn things around, even when I disappeared for a bit of time!
Your professional editing made the manuscript so much better. I always have confidence in submitting manuscripts after your editing.
